DISPLACEMENT REPORT – Year 11 Context Research for Newspaper Feature

1. Using the following weblinks as a starting point, decide which displaced people you would like to research:

2. Your task (in pairs) is to complete an A3 newspaper spread (this will be printed off and displayed) about displaced people, using one country as your focus. You should try not to do the same country as anyone else in the class. IT SHOULD ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
Who are the people that have been displaced?
What is the reason for their displacement?
What is the likelihood of their returning to their homes?

3. You must use one of the above photos as one of the main photos. You must insert your own 1/2 sentence caption for this.

4. Other things to report:
– a definition of displacement, or displaced people
– a 3 – 5 paragraph news report detailing the events which led to this displacement
– any facts/figures relevant to this group of people
– an interview or short article about a particular person or family that has been affected by this displacement: what kind of struggles have they experienced?
– any thing else you can think of, in terms of the CONTEXT of DISPLACEMENT that explores those displaced people you have chosen
– are there any government policies/aid agencies/lawyers etc that are supporting these people?
