TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
“Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
Walt Whitman, a famous American poet, wrote a poem called “Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking” about the mockingbird. Read that poem to find our more information about the mockingbird. Richard Henry Wilde, a southern poet, also wrote a poem in which he made fun of the mockingbird, but still celebrated its lovely song. Many paintings have also been made of the beautiful bird. Tennessee, Texas, and Florida all have the mockingbird as their state bird. Songs have been written which include the mockingbird. Many groups of people have legends about the mockingbird. Some call the mockingbird the giver of language; others say it taught all the other birds how to sing.
